Comments: why passover getaways make me sad

This might be a little to late but just read your blog.

Pesach is a time of Freedom. the B'nei Yisrael left Egypt in splendor and with richness. in fact, we are commanded to sit and dine with our finest and to officiate as free men like the nobility would do. True, there are people who are unfortunately poor and unable to have a splendid Seder. However, the percentage that go away is quite small in relation to those that stay home.

In any event, there are many organizations, synagogues, etc that provide community sedarim as well. there are organizations such as Tomchei Shabbos that provide (through the financial generosity of many people who "go away") literally hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of food, wine and matzos for those less fortunate.

As to your friend who grew up in a secular home. Might I suggest he investigate the wonders of our religion and perhaps he too can make his own Seder.( which is what he should do.)
