Comments: Why not read RACHEL first

Take heart. I am not Jewish but I stumbled across Book I at my local Barnes and Noble. I like historical fiction and greatly enjoyed Miriam's story. I also enjoyed the second book. I'm sure that anyone who bought the second book will go back for the first and third!
