Interesting blog post. I think your last sentence should be held up to all doubters who regard the Talmud as obscure and irrelevant contemporary thinking. Many of the discussions in the Talmud are can be regarded as hypothetical. But I also think that the breadth of knowledge among the Sages was so deep they could imagine a future where such births would be possible. And not talking about divine prophecy but the ability to think beyond their own contemporary paradigms.

Thanks David for your thoughtful comment. Even those Talmud debates about still "impossible" situations can be useful to teach us how to think and reason.
