Respectfully point out that squashes were unknown in Eurasia before the conquest of N/S America. Perhaps in later editions references to their being served can be deleted.

Joy - good call. The Talmud mentions vegetables that are translated as "squash" in English, obviously incorrectly, since this is supposed to refer to the genus Cucurbita. But they certainly had gourds from genus Lagenaria, and cucumbers, which came from Africa.
